Any branch of the Armed Forces, including Reserve/Guard on federal active duty
Minimum Service Period
24 months continuous active duty OR any Title 10 active duty service (including shorter activations)
Discharge Status
Honorable, general, or other than dishonorable discharge
Exceptions Apply
Early discharge for hardship, service-connected disability, or reduction in force may still qualify. Always talk to a VSO and keep asking questions because there are many exceptions, character-of-discharge reviews, discharge upgrade paths, and other ways to qualify even if you were told no before or assume your discharge status automatically disqualifies you.

Who Qualifies:
Combat veterans discharged on or after September 11, 2001, who served in a theater of combat operations get 10 years of enhanced eligibility starting from their discharge date. This includes Gulf War veterans and PACT Act eligible veterans exposed to burn pits or other toxic substances.
